A whimsical painting of a pickpocket attempting to pick a gentleman’s pocket. Likely European, definitely 19th century the painting appears to have been relined and touched up in the past. The frame appears newer, perhaps added when the painting was relined. This was purchased out of an antique dealers estate and it simply charmed us. While our focus is generally on 20th century design, this whimsy will be sure to delight you as much as it did us.
It’s in generally good condition, as it’s been relined, although the frame corners have some gilt loss, and the frame has some gilt touch up.
