1960’s Murrine Venini Ball by Lodovico Diaz De Santillana

Wonderful Murrine ball by the noted Venini artist Ludovico Diaz de Santillana. It dates from the 1960’s and is signed on the bottom Venini Italia. Lovely shades of brown and white. In good condition with no chips or cracks. Ludovico was married to Anna Venini the daughter of Paolo and went on to manage the firm after Paolo’s death. Examples of these balls of his have been exhibited worldwide and have been sold at some of the major auction houses.
A brief bio from the Venini website follows:
After his degree in architecture obtained in Venice, de Santillana immediately dedicated himself to academic teaching.
He married Anna Venini, Paolo’s daughter, and then took over the management of “Venini & C.” after the owner’s death. In 1985 he went on to EOS, where he held the same position and designed several important collections.
As a business owner, Ludovico de Santillana greatly contributed to spreading the use of glass in architecture by opening up VENINI’s kilns and the secrets of Murano to young American glassmaking artists, with a delicate balance between artistic craftsmanship, design, and industry.
